Billy Ebeling at Cafe Ole, Puerto Aventura Mexico on 12/29/01
So after a stressfull incident of trying to find cash from an ATM in the Mayan Riviera of Mexico. We finally had success. After walking out with a pocket full of cash we hear the unusual strains of a blues band playing. Better than that, they sounded pretty good. We walk over and find an accordian player, bass, and drums at an outside cafe. We manage to get a seat and actually find the band to be really good. Shortly the accordian player switches to guitar and plays a few classic blues tunes. At this point we are nothing but smiles. On top of which we get our first bottled beer in about a week, and the best taco's I've probably ever eaten. We talk with the band, turns out they are from Lawerence Kansas. Wow, that is almost back home to us. We chat for a bit, they turn out to be great guys. The Cafe owner was from Lawerence also. In between sets a guy named Jorge gets up and plays nylon stringed guitar to a drum machine. He does more traditional Mexican styles but is really good. Soon the band joins him and some very interesting jams happen. Seeing a tradition mexican style guitar player jamming to blues was wild. He was an amazing player and to see it with a good blues band was a treat. Without a doubt the best entertainment, food, and beer we got while in Mexico.
