Chuck Berry on 09/18/02 at Blueberry Hill

Of course you knew this would have to be a great show. However it started
off with a Doo-Wop group. They were pretty fair but an hour of it was a bit much.
They were some typical white middle class guys living out some fantasy. I don't
mean to complain, they were good just didn't fit the bill for the evening.
Chuck came on and his band was very tight. Local guys that are well known in the
blues circles around town. Chuck started playing and I couldn't tell what
the heck it was. Finally he started singing and I knew what the song was suppose
to be then. A couple of songs later he was singing and forgot the words. It took
about four songs for him to get cranking but once he did it was everything it was
suppose to be. He is getting older so it is understandable. I still wouldn't miss him
for anything given the chance. He is playing once a month at Blueberry Hill usually
on a Wednesday. If you can do it, it's well worth it. Be prepared for a few
rough edges, it is Rock and Roll after all.
