Dick Dale and The Bent Scepters at The Side Door 05/05/99

Happy Cinco de Drinko! The Bent Scepters started earlier
than I expected so I missed all but a couple of songs. Even so,
they were awesome. These guys are one of the funnest bands
around. Real 60's garage rock with that Farfisa organ sound.
They are one of those that you see everytime they come to town!
So only a couple of songs was still great! The legendary Dick
Dale was up and the place just went nuts. He has to be around 65
now. Its funny I saw an old Frankie and Annette movie and there
he was on the beach playing guitar in it. Obviously the Pulp
Fiction movie soundtrack made him huge again. But either way he
is lengendary. His guitar playing is beyond just about anyone
you can name. At one point he was playing his guitar with one
hand and had reached over and was playing the notes on the bass
at the same time. Pretty amazing stuff. He was very loud, and
had the crowd screaming like crazy. It had to be about 100
degrees in the box of a warehouse that is the Side Door, but he
kept the leather jacket on the whole time. If he heads to your
town break out the surf board and catch the show.
