Dash Rip Rock at the Hi-Pointe on 01/23/99

Yes Dash Rip Rock was back in town. You always know what
you are in for when they are here. However there was a few twists
this time. The Tripdaddys were opening. It was Beatle Bob's
Birthday. And they got Johnny Johnson, Oliver Sain and Jacque
Stanton to come out and join Dash on stage. The Tripdaddys
started the show and naturally got the crowd into the frenzy.
This guys haven't changed much over time, but why should they.
When you have that much energy on stage, what could be changed.
Buckshot and the Barnstormers were up second. I had not heard
of these guys. But if Dash brings someone along. They are
usually incredible. And this time they were dead on the money.
These guys deserve a lot of credit and you should check them
out. It takes a bit to suprise me, and this was a big suprise.
I hope they make it back to St. Louis on their own!
Dash Rip Rock came out next. You can tell when Hoaky sits out a
half-gallon jug of Whiskey, pours a huge glass, that it is going
to be a wild one. They played for about an hour. Nothing but
that wild rock, zydeco, cajun, blend of swamp that they do.
Then out came Johnny, Jacque and Oliver. Now things got real
interesting. The guy that gave Chuck Berry his start, with
the horn player who worked with Ike and Tina. And Jacque's
incredible voice. All backed up by Dash Rip Rock? The amazing bit
is that it worked, and damn well. The Dash guys while known for
their craziness take their music pretty serious, and it was
obvious that they could hang with the masters. For about another
hour I thought if there is a heaven, I'm in it. It was that good.
They swapped around instruments some. Craig from the Tripdaddys
got up for awhile. The guys from Buckshot did also. Making for a
wild show. Paul from Buckshot was awesome on the guitar. Half the
audience was dancing their ass off the other half I think was in
shock. The three guests finally left the show. I don't think
anyone wanted to see them leave. Dash closed out the night, they
kicked the energy up and we just danced the night away. South
City Diner for breakfast rounded out a long evening! Here is a
picture of Oliver Sain and Hoaky. My friend Dan took the shot.
Don't use it without his permission.
