The Tripdaddys at the Hi-Pointe on 03/20/98

The evening started off with dinner at The Soulard Ale
House. This place is getting to be like a home. The steak was
over done again, but still excellent. They had a band called the
Junkyardmen playing. They were from Memphis. I listened to about
three songs before splitting. They sounded like an average bar
blues band. I then headed for the Hi-Pointe for The Tripdaddy's
CD release party. Johnny Magnet opened the show. They were
a little better than usual. They came out onstage in what looked
like bridesmaids dresses. They had a ton of photographers taking
their pictures. It was like a media zoo in the place. Johnny
Magnet was actually pretty fun. Meanwhile I was sucking down
the Oatmeal Stouts and having a good time. I picked up a copy
of The Tripdaddy's CD, and one of their T-Shirts. The T-Shirt
artwork is incredible. Finally they were up to play. As usual,
they kicked. They were extra pumped for this show, with the CD
finally coming out. The guitar playing never fails to amaze me,
and the rhythm section was solid and tight. If you get the chance
to see these guys, you will not be disappointed! Get the CD, it
rocks. The production is a little thin, but it is always hard to
translate this kind of music out of the live environment.
